Bolton Abbey is in the heart of the Yorkshire Dales on the banks of the River Wharfe. The walk is up one side of the river and down the other. More Pictures of Bolton Abbey. More Info.
Take the A59 out of Harrogate towards Bolton Abbey. Start from the main car park marked with the (A) on the above map. You then cross the road towards Bolton Abbey. Walking slowly down to the walls of the Abbey itself.
Take a little time to explore the walls and grave yard of the Abbey. Then cross the river and set off on the walk on the far bank. Looking back at the Abbey as you walk along the river bank. Treck on moving slightly up hill.
Ever upward along the path, you get some great views. Water falls, trees, the lot! Along the way there are some fantastic activities to keep the kiddies interested…
Its not far before you come to a Visitor Centre visible on the other bank, you can cross here for a cup of Tea, or leave that pleasure for the way back!
You will eventually come to a rather splendid looking bridge where you cross to the other side for the return journey. Take the photo opportunity from the top of the bridge, smashing on a sunny day. You can now head back to the Visitor Centre and that cup of tea and perhaps a slab of cake!
Once you have been refreshed you can make your way back through the Abbey and on to the car park, have a safe trip home.
